how does solar energy work?
Solarun customers conducting solar panel research

Solar panels generate power by using photovoltaic cells to capture the sun’s energy. The cells convert the sunlight into electricity which contributes to the electricity required to power the house in daylight hours. The cells do not rely on direct sunlight to work – as long as there is daylight electricity will be generated. Because it takes a surprisingly small amount of daylight to power solar panels, they will work anywhere in the UK, even on a cloudy day.
